A pregnant woman struck by a vehicle on Highway 49 was hospitalized for her injuries.
“On Sunday around 9:20 p.m., Hattiesburg Police were dispatched to 5712 Highway 49 in reference to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian,” Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said. “When officers arrived, they located the driver of a Ford Mustang, and the pedestrian was being tended to by ambulance personnel.”
The pedestrian was transported to Forrest General Hospital, according to authorities.
“It was learned that the pedestrian was pregnant at the time of the crash and the unborn fetus did not survive,” Traxler said. “Based on the age of the fetus, the coroner advised it would not be considered a fatality because it was less than 350 grams in weight.”
Traxler added that the driver did not have any injuries and was released in the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Traxler.
