LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The city of Laurel hosted a family-friendly, anti-crime event Tuesday evening.

The annual Night Out Against Crime was held at Mason Park.

Music and dance teams were featured at the event and you could even register to vote.

Laurel police said it was all about building positive relationships between law officers and the community.

"Tonight is that night that we will let you know, regardless how you feel about us, we are here for you," said Sgt. Shannon Caraway of the Laurel Police Department. "We will do what we have to do to protect you, we will listen to your complaints and try to make it work for all of us."

The event in Laurel is held each year on the first Tuesday of October.
