HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Students enrolled in vocational-technical programs at six Pine Belt high schools are getting financial help from a local home builders organization.

Juniors and seniors at Hattiesburg, North Forrest, Petal, Purvis, Oak Grove and Sumrall are getting money from a new scholarship fund set up by the Greater Hattiesburg Homebuilders Association.

Tuesday, the first recipients of the scholarships were invited to Cotton Blues for a monthly luncheon hosted by the organization.

The group set up the fund to promote building trades in the area.

Students can use the money to purchase materials they need in high school or for college.
