Sheriff: Pregnant woman charged with possession

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A pregnant Jones County woman was charged with possession after she was caught selling pills in a Walmart parking lot, according to the sheriff.

Jones County sheriff deputies received a tip that Tiffney Dement, 32, or Laurel, would be attempting to sell 20 hydrocodone pills in the parking lot of Walmart in laurel.

When investigators arrived they found Dement walking through the lot with something in her hand.

Investigators approached her and asked her what she was doing. According to the sheriff, Dement said she lost her car and was looking for it, even though she was standing right beside it.

She admitted to having 20 loose hydrocodone pills on her, and told investigators she was taking the tabs to her car because they were "melting" inside of the store.

Dement was arrested and then transported to the Jones County Sheriff's Department. During the interview, she admitted to attempting to sell the pills at the store and said she had stolen them from her grandmother.

Dement also admitted to deputies that she had used methamphetamine, marijuana and hydrocodone with the last week. Dement is six months pregnant.

She was charged with felonious child abuse and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

She is expected to be in court Tuesday for her initial appearance.
