LPD searching for shooting suspect

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel Police are searching for a suspect in connection with an early morning aggravated assault Saturday.

Officers are searching for Antwune Mantrell Washington, 35, who is suspected of shooting another man in Laurel around 4:30 Saturday morning.

According to Laurel Police Investigator Kim Stewart, authorities got a call of shots fired at Shadowood Park apartments at 2600 Old Amy Road. When they arrived at the scene, officers found the victim outside one of the apartments with a gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim, a man in his early 30s, was transported first to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, and then to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, where he is in critical condition.

Police say the shooting happened during an argument that took place outside of one of the apartments.

    An Ellisville man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife. Jones County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Whitney G. Kitchens, 42, on Tuesday after responding to a shots fired complain on Oak Bowery Road in Ellisville, according to a Jones County Sheriff's Department press release.  Deputies were advised that the suspect had shot his wife multiple times.
