PINE BELT (WDAM) - Behind five touchdowns from senior running back Stephon Huderson, Petal snapped its three-game losing skid against Oak Grove, beating the Warriors 49-28.
On Law Enforcement Appreciation Night, Huderson's camouflage Panthers' jersey weaved in and out, and through tackles all night as he racked up 206 yards on the ground.
Petal drew first blood with a long touchdown connection from senior quarterback Tanner Estill to junior Natorian Watts.
On the next possession, Oak Grove sophomore John Rhys Plumlee showed off his arm strength with a touchdown pass to sophomore Kevin Barnett, evening the score at 7-7.
Three straight Huderson touchdown runs broke open the Panthers' lead 28-7. But the Warriors would get back in the game after Plumlee danced his way across the field and into the end zone just before halftime.
Petal would open up the second half with a methodical drive capped off by another Huderson touchdown making it a 35-14 game. Oak Grove's Orlando Simmon would return the ensuing kickoff 87 yards to the end zone, keeping the Warriors in it for a little while longer.
But Oak Grove had no answer for Huderson, who scored his fifth touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter, extending the Panthers' lead to 49-21.
Petal (4-2) faces Brandon High School next week while Oak Grove (3-4) hosts Meridian.
