Teen charged as adult in Jones County assault

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A 15-year-old boy has been charged as an adult in reference to an aggravated assault in Jones County. 

Deputies were dispatched to the Jones County Juvenile Detention Center on Sept.10. after two juvenile inmates had an altercation. 

One 14-year-old male was found unconscious by corrections officers and he was transferred to South Central Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

Three people were in the cell at the time. It was determined by deputies that Lazavian Gibbs was involved in the altercation where he allegedly beat and choked the 14-year-old. 

On September 20, 2016 a hearing for Gibbs was held at Youth Court with Judge Gaylon Harper. 

Bond was set at $100,000. 

During the proceedings, a motion was made to transfer Gibbs to Circuit Court, thus adjudicating the teenager and charging him as an adult. 

It was at this time the Jones County Sheriff’s Department transferred Gibbs to the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
