USM business students get leadership training from Sanderson Farms

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Some students in the College of Business at the University of Southern Mississippi Friday got some valuable lessons about success in the corporate world from executives at Laurel-based, Sanderson Farms.

Corporate trainers Robin Robinson and Jamie Peoples, both USM graduates, spoke to students about communication, trust and collaboration at a leadership training series at Scianna Hall.

Faculty members said the event helps students develop the skills needed to successfully enter the work force and also gives Sanderson Farms a chance to meet some potential new employees.

"Hopefully, the students can take the skills that we talk about today and use them a be a better student, a better employee," said Robin Robinson.

"It's a win-win," said Bret Becton, associate dean and assistant professor in the College of Business. "Our students are better for going through it, and then they start to be able to network with these representatives of the corporations."

Two other similar training classes have been held in the recent months.
