United Blood Services Senior Donor Recruitment Representative, Beverly Clark, and United Blood Services will partner with St. Michael's Urgent Care in effort to assist in restoring the blood supply following the recent Louisiana flood.
The extreme flooding that struck Louisiana left residents with limited food and utility resources, heightened emergency medical care and the need to rely on outside assistance for increased blood supplies.
"We lost over 450 donations during the week of the storm," said Jason Connor with Baton Rogue United Blood Services. "We had to shut the clinics down for an entire week, which meant we received no donations during that time. We are now attempting to refill our used units, but the need is so great that we are having trouble replenishing the supply."
The flood that struck Baton Rogue is on record as one of the worst storms since Hurricane Sandy, according to recent reports.
The residents have seen a tremendous outpour of support from neighboring areas, but the blood donations are not coming in as rapidly as hoped, so St. Michael's of Ellisville, MS, will be hosting the blood drive in hopes of relieving pressure from the current lack of blood supply. This event will be held on 85 Hal Crocker Road, Ellisville, MS, on Friday, September 23, 2016, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
To assist this intense need you may schedule your donation by visiting www.bloodhero.com, click on "Locate a Blood Drive," then enter the sponsor code: st.michael, or contact Katherine Parker, St. Michael's Urgent Care Marketing Coordinator at 601.800.8425/601.433.6720.
