HATTIESBURG, MS - Three United States veterans were given the opportunity to see Saturday's Southern Miss football game from the sidelines.
Southern Miss gave veterans John Growder, Billy Roberts and Lester Floyd free passes to enjoy the contest from the field.
"We're pleased that Southern invites the veterans to come to these games," Roberts said. "It means a lot to these soldiers…to be able to come to a division one football game."
"Southern Miss was just wonderful," Floyd said. "They wanted to do something for disabled veterans and let us know they support us so they hooked us up with some sideline passes so we can see it. Coach [Jay] Hopson was tremendous."
And despite the rain and the loss, all three had a great time.
"Weather doesn't matter," Roberts said. "We've been wet before. Rain's not going to hurt anybody. There's a saying, 'It doesn't rain in the Army.'"
