LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of Jones County-area residents spent a little time on the softball diamond Saturday, to make Christmas a little better for some needy kids.
About ten teams took part in the second annual benefit softball tournament for "Shop with a Firefighter."
That's a program which funds holiday shopping sprees for underprivileged kids.
The Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department hosted the tournament.
Organizers hope to take up to eight children on the shopping trips.
"Last year, we got six kids from the West Jones Elementary School, which is in our immediate fire response area, this year, we're hoping to increase that by at least two to four kids," said Lee Garick, chief of the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Dept.
Garick hopes to raise enough to spend about $250 on each child.
