JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council.
Two separate accidents occurred within a quarter mile of each other on Friday in the M&M community. At around 2:40PM, units from M&M Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of the first accident on Masonite Lake Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavily damaged black pickup truck lying on it's driver's side pinned against a tree in the front yard of a house. According to reports, the male driver of the truck was able to exit the vehicle on his own through the passenger's side window and left the scene with a passerby.
However, when deputies arrived, the driver returned to the scene of the accident. The driver appeared to be uninjured and was not transported to the hospital.
The second accident occurred while units were still on scene at the first accident.
According to reports, another pickup truck wrecked on Clark Cemetery Road less than a mile from the first accident. While M&M firefighters were finishing up at the scene on Masonite Lake Road, Jones County Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell and a Jones County Sheriff's deputy responded to the scene of the second accident and confirmed that no one was injured.
M&M volunteers then arrived on scene and performed traffic control until the vehicle could be removed from the steep embankment it had struck on the side of the road. The juvenile driver was uninjured and was not transported to the hospital.
The cause of both accidents is unknown.
Rescue personnel on scene included M&M Volunteer Fire Department, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.
