USM men's hoops schedule released

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The University of Southern Mississippi men's basketball team released it's schedule for the 2016-17 season Thursday.

The Golden Eagles will host two exhibition games against Mississippi College (Nov. 3) and William Carey (Nov. 7) before officially opening the campaign on Nov. 7 at Reed Green Coliseum against Tougaloo. This will be the first meeting between the schools.

Notable highlights include a trip to Baton Rouge on Nov. 15 to face LSU. The Golden Eagles will also visit Florida State (Dec. 6), host Tulane (Dec. 10) and go up against Mississippi State (Dec. 19) in Jackson.

"We have a very challenging schedule," Golden Eagles head coach Doc Sadler said in a release. "At least eight of our games will be against postseason teams from last year, including several in our conference and the Hawaii tournament. I'm excited about this season and the schedule is going to be the toughest we've had in a long time."

USM will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the Diamond Head Classic (Dec. 22-25). The Golden Eagles will open with San Diego State before facing Tulsa or Stephen F. Austin on the second day. The third opponent has not been determined.

The Golden Eagles will open Conference USA play on New Year's Day at home against Louisiana Tech.
