Preliminary hearing held for Walthall Co. murder suspect

TYLERTOWN,MS (WDAM) -

A man charged in connection to a Walthall County murder that happened in August had a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Donnifer Peters of Tylertown was charged with first-degree murder in late August.

According to the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office, Alonza Glen Mays was found face down in a ditch off Firetower Road in Tylertown Aug. 5.

In the preliminary hearing, it was decided that the case would be turned over to the grand jury, according to Walthall County Sheriff Kyle Breland. 

Peters’ bond was reduced to $750,000, but he still has to wear a monitor around his ankle.

Another suspect was also arrested in Mays’ murder. Ashley Alford was charged with burglary of a vehicle, felony possession of a firearm and accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
