LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A Laurel church honored first responders for the 15th anniversary of 9/11 Sunday afternoon.

The Greater Laurel United Pentecostal Church sang songs and prayed for first responders and the victims of 9/11. Jones County firefighters and police officers attended the service and said they were touched by the service.

“It makes me feel honored and blessed that the people of Jones County and churches and organizations remember server day, because so many people go through their lives and take it for granted,” said Jones County firefighter Jonathan Hodge.

Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge said it’s important to respect first responders for their service.

“All of us put this uniform and don’t do it for the pay, obviously," Hodge said. "We do it because I believe with all my heart that we are called."

The church plans on holding more events like this in the future.
