ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Members of the Jones County Fire Council gathered at the Ellisville Courthouse on Sunday morning to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11 with a special ceremony.

“We’re coming together today as a brotherhood to honor those 343 firefighters that were killed during the 9/11 attack, and the 72 police officers along with the eight EMT paramedics,” said Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna.

There was a moment of silence for American Flight 11 striking the south tower and a moment of silence for the United Airlines flight 175 striking the north.

Sen. Chris McDaniel was present as a guest speaker.

“We talk about fire departments and we talk about these police officers, these firefighters, we talk about these police officers, these are the real heroes," McDaniel said. "These are the public servants. These are the men and women who rushed toward the danger, and most of us rushed away from the danger so we have remember 9/11 we also remember the sacrifices."
