Pine Belt to host Patriot Day services

PINE BELT (WDAM) - The PIne Belt will honor the heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Sunday.

An annual Patriot Day service in Hattiesburg will begin at 8 a.m. at Fire Station Number One on North Main Street.

Hattiesburg Fire and Police Departments will participate.

Bells will be rung to remember each plane that crashed into the twin towers and the Pentagon.

Wreaths will be laid and a police rifle salute will take place.

"It's a part of our history now, and like they say, we should never forget, and that's something we'll never forget," said Paul Presley, Hattiesburg fire chief. "We'll (host a service) as long as we're here, we're going to do it, every year."

Laurel will also hold a Patriot Day service at the Jones County Courthouse in Ellisville.

It will begin at 7:30 Sunday morning.
