PETAL, MS (WDAM) - In a game which both teams exchanged touchdowns throughout, a 38-yard field goal from the leg of Laurel's Harris Hauenstein lifted the Golden Tornadoes over Petal 30-28 on Friday night.
The Panthers looked as if they would hold off Laurel as senior quarterback Tanner Estill's fourth rushing touchdown of the game gave Petal its third lead of the night at 28-27.
But head coach Todd Breland and the Golden Tornadoes did just enough to beat the Panthers on their home turf and turn Estill's stellar night into a sour one.
Estill accounted for all four of Petal's touchdowns, his only blip of the game coming with 19 seconds left in the first half when Laurel's Jalon Thigpen intercepted him and returned the ball 79 yards to give Laurel a 20-14 lead just before the half.
Petal controlled the clock most of the first half. A couple of long touchdown receptions from Laurel's Jevah Jones kept the Golden Tornadoes in the game just long enough for them to pull off an impressive road win.
Laurel (3-1) travels to Butte Central Catholic next week while Petal (2-2) travels to Pearl High School.
