HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The United Way kicked off its community-wide food drive in Hattiesburg Thursday.
Donations can be dropped off at Corner Market stores in Hattiesburg, Oak Grove and Petal.
Canned good items will benefit Christian Services, Hub City Humane Society, Edward Street fellowship and Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
"It's important because the food pantries, they help a lot of people that have food insecurities. This goes towards and helps food pantries throughout the area that may help carry them through the winter," CEO United Way Southeast Mississippi President Tracie Fowler said. "When you're on a lower income but you have a pet, some people love their pets so much that they will purchase food for the pet before they would purchase food for themselves."
