USM Eagle Alert canceled, suspect still sought

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A USM Eagle Alert sent out earlier Wednesday afternoon to students, faculty and staff regarding an armed man on campus has been canceled.

The Hattiesburg campus has been given an all clear by UPD to resume normal operations. 

The armed suspect, described as an African-American male, has moved off campus, but is still being sought by University Police Department and Hattiesburg Police Department.

Earlier Wednesday, police were searching for the suspect near 34th Avenue and Montague.

According to the Eagle Alert, the individual had a handgun and was threatening others.
