SUV becomes airborne in one-vehicle wreck

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a press release from the Jones County Fire Council.

An SUV became airborne, striking multiple street signs and an electric pole before coming to a stop.

At 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, units from Glade and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of what was reported to be a two-vehicle accident. However, upon arrival, firefighters advised that only one vehicle had wrecked.

Rescue personnel found the vehicle sitting upright down a steep embankment on Highway 15 South near Mt. Vernon Congregational Methodist Church.

According to reports, two Glade firefighters, one of which is an Emergency Medical Responder, and a Powers firefighter were traveling in separate personal vehicles and witnessed the wreck. All stopped to render aid to the victims until emergency services arrived on scene.

The adult male driver and adult female passenger in the wrecked vehicle were evaluated on scene by Emergency Medical Responders. However, both occupants declined transport to the hospital.

The male driver of the SUV was taken into custody by the Mississippi Highway Patrol for unknown reasons. One lane of Highway 15 South was closed for nearly 30 minutes while rescue and cleanup operations took place.
