HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi men's basketball program hired Kyle Roane as Director of Basketball Operations Thursday.

Roane is a familiar name in the area having spent time as the head coach at Petal and Forrest County Agricultural High Schools.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join coach (Doc) Sadler's staff," Roane said in a press release. "Southern Miss and the people that make up Hattiesburg and the university community are special. Coach Sadler has instilled major excitement in the basketball program, and I look forward to serving as the Director of Basketball Operations as we move in a very positive direction."

Roane will step in the role left vacant by Chris Croft who was hired as an assistant coach along with Clarence Weatherspoon recently.

Roane was head coach at Petal for three seasons and coached at FCAHS for one year. He also spent time as head coach at Jones County Junior College and assistant at USM, Jacksonville State University and Pearl River Community College.
