JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The trial for a Jones County man charged with statutory rape and kidnapping started on Thursday.

The jury was seated shortly before noon to hear the case of Faron Young.

He is accused of kidnapping and raping a 14-year old girl in 2015.

The State presented expert testimony from investigators that were involved with the case.

The incident occurred in May 2015 when the mother of the 14-year old contacted the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and told them that she and her daughter had gotten into an argument earlier in the evening, and the girl stormed off and did not return home.

A search for the girl began shortly afterward in the Sandersville area.

About three hours later, the juvenile contacted a family member to come pick her up.

However, investigators found out the girl contacted Young after the argument with her mother.

Young went to where she was and picked her up without permission or knowledge of the girl’s mother.

Authorities said Young then took the girl to a secluded area and had sex with her, although he claimed that he had told the mother he had no knowledge where the juvenile was and never mentioned the girl’s location.

The trial will continue on Friday as the State is expected to rest and Young’s defense will begin.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
