1 jailed in Hub City stabbing

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Sumrall woman is behind bars in connection to a Monday night stabbing in the Hub City.

Darlene Marter, 49, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection to a stabbing that occurred around 10 p.m. at Magnuson Hotel at 6563 Highway 49.

According to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler, officers were dispatched to Forrest General Hospital for a person who showed up with a stab wound.

“Officers advised that the victim was being treated and that the victim was at 6563 Highway 49 visiting a friend when it occurred,” said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler. “The victim advised that after a while of hanging out the suspect (Marter) stabbed them in the back.”

Traxler added the victim was able to fight off the suspect until a man walked by and helped the victim out of the room.

“Officers went back to 6563 Highway 49 and located the suspect (Marter) and took her into custody without incident,” said Traxler.

Traxler added that the victim’s injuries were serious, but not believed to be life threatening.
