HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A pair of Hattiesburg men are behind bars after allegedly stealing chicken from a Hub City plant.

Jessie Newton, 33, and Thomas Miller, 22, were arrested Monday and each charged with one count of embezzlement.

According to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler, officers were dispatched to 1301 James Street, to MarJac Poultry in reference to an embezzlement case.

"When officers arrived they met with the plant manager who advised they had some employees who had stolen several cases of product from the plant," said Traxler. "During the investigation it was determined that Newton and Miller were the suspects in the case."

Newton and Miller were taken into custody without incident.

Traxler added that the amount of chicken that was stolen was valued at more than $1,000.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to call Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.
