JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County man with a history of domestic and violent assault is now facing felony charges, according to the Jones County Sheriff.
On Thursday just before 11:00 a.m., Jones County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call regarding an assault from a residence on Ben Thompson Road.
Deputies made contact with a female victim who stated her boyfriend, Steven Shawn Smith, 31 of Ellisville, had assaulted her.
She told deputies that she was awakened by Smith being on top of her, choking her with one hand and hitting her in the face with his other hand.
She then told deputies that he left the residence in her vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted some time later by a friend and deputies continued the search, according to a news release issued by the sheriff.
Jones County Sheriff's Investigators soon discovered Smith had two previous convictions of simple assault, and domestic violence.
With that information, Smith was charged with felony domestic violence.
