Pine Belt retailers expect big sales during 2nd Amendment tax holiday

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hunters are getting a break when they shop for shooting supplies this weekend.

And firearms retailers are expecting a big increase in sales.

Mississippi's 2nd Amendment Sales Tax Holiday begins Friday.

Items such as rifles, pistols, shotguns, ammunition and archery supplies will be exempt from the normal state sales tax.

But, hunting clothing and vehicles are not included.

"I highly encourage people to go out and participate in it," said Robert Ulmer, owner of American Pawn and Jewelry. "If you're even thinking about purchasing a firearm, this would be a perfect opportunity to do it."

Gabe George, manager of Gander Mountain in Hattiesburg, said, "Every employee that we have that works here will be working the next three days and we've received several hundred extra firearms, guns and ammo."

The tax free holiday ends at midnight Sunday.
