PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

The city of Petal has received a major grant to continue its development of the River Park area.
The $100,000 grant was provided for by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks.

The money will be used to build a walking track for the park.
Along with the track, park benches and exercise stations will also be added.

Handicap parking spots will be built for vehicles to unload wheelchairs.
Executive Director for the Petal Chamber of Commerce Valerie Wilson said the grant will allow the city to provide a scenic walking trail for its citizens.
“This grant we received, is one we applied for a year ago and didn’t get but we reapplied and were awarded the grant this year,” Wilson said. “What we’re going to do with this grant money is to put in an ADA accessible walking track.”
The city is also in talks to build a disk golf course in the River Park area.
