PINE BELT (WDAM) - Bassfield took to Seminary's field for the final time as the Yellowjackets Friday night, and they left it victorious.
The Yellowjackets beat the Bulldogs 21-12 on Friday night in a back-and-forth, sloppy season-opener for both squads.
After Seminary drew first blood with Wendell Crosby's long rushing touchdown, Bassfield's senior running back Ron Thompson responded with a touchdown run of his own.
Thompson lost his cleat in the process, but slipped it back on and kicked the PAT to give the Yellowjackets a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter, after an array of fumbles and penalties from both teams, Bassfield was awarded a safety after Seminary's fourth-down snap flew over the punter's head and rolled out of the back of the end zone.
Thompson would add another touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for Seminary.
