JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Waynesboro man is facing charges after a late night traffic stop in Jasper County.

Timothy Yawn was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm while being a convicted felon, according to JCSD.

Yawn is being housed in the Jasper County Jail and is awaiting his initial appearance in court.

On Thursday around 10:45 p.m., a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck on Hwy 15 near Georgia Pacific Road, according to the JCSD. This came after a complaint that the driver of the truck was driving carelessly.

After talking to Yawn, the deputy was notified that Yawn had an active felony warrant through MDOC, according to JCSD.

The deputy obtained consent to search Yawn’s vehicle, and he found a firearm and methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

According to JCSD, the deputy arrested Yawn and called the Jasper County Narcotics investigators for further investigation.
