LPD welcomes three new officers

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The Laurel Police Department welcomed three new officers Friday morning.

Josh Freeman, Jarone’ Walker and Curt Bassett were sworn in during a ceremony at Laurel City Hall.

Freeman is a graduate of Southern Regional Public Safety Institute, and he also went to West Jones High School and JCJC. He is a certified EMT, according to LPD.

Walker attended South Jones High School and served with the Ellisville State School Police and University Medical Center Police. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy.

The third officer, Bassett, graduated from the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute and attended West Jones High School and JCJC. He is serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard, according to LPD.

    After two innings Friday night at Pete Taylor Park, the University of Southern Mississippi had strolled to a 6-0 lead over visiting Middle Tennessee State University. Literally. The 13th-ranked Golden Eagles took advantage of MTSU starter Jake Wyrick’s wildness, mixing six walks in with three hits to build an early lead on the way to a 9-1 Conference USA victory over the Blue Raiders.
