'Star-Spangled Celebration' raises funds for combat wounded

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A night of nostalgia Saturday helped raise money for wounded veterans in Mississippi.

The 41st Army Jazz Band, the PCS Pipe and Drum Corp and the Victory Belles from the World War Two Museum in New Orleans performed at the Saenger Theater as part of a "Star-Spangled Celebration of Our Veterans & Active Military."

The event was a USO-style variety show, co-hosted by Connor Humphreys. He is an Army veteran who served in Iraq and the actor who played young Forrest Gump in the Hollywood movie.

St. Joseph Hospice sponsored the event.

All donations went to the Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi.
