Hattiesburg church honors law officers with 'Service of Hope'

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Hattiesburg church has hosted a prayer service honoring law enforcement and first responders.

Heritage United Methodist Church held a "Service of Hope" Wednesday night.

Law officers from Lamar County and police officers from Hattiesburg and Wiggins attended.

"We had our officers here, showed our appreciation, our first responders, our firemen, all those that are kind of on the front line," said Steve Casteel, senior pastor of Heritage United Methodist Church.

"It is in times like this that the community lets us know that they love us, they support us, they back us one hundred percent," said Det. Sgt. Richard Gulledge, an officer with the Wiggins Police Department and a member of the church.

During the service, church members gave law officers a standing ovation for their service and sacrifice.

About one dozen law officers attended.
