PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A Petal food pantry which has been low on supplies has been re-stocked, thanks to some young kids with big hearts.
The children at the Petal Family-Y's summer camp brought in more than 700 non-perishable items this week as part of a food drive.
Everything is being donated to the Petal Children's Task Force.
"We decided to take upon ourselves a canned drive to help fill the shelves back up, because these are our peers, our neighbors and our family and we want to do our part in the community," said Ann Culpepper, director of the Petal Family-Y.
"This is the time we do run low of food, because we're seeing more people come through the task force needing food to feed the children since they are out of school, so we're very grateful for the YMCA," said Kelly Courtney, second shift coordinator with the Petal Children's Task Force.
About 250 children ages K-12 have been attending camp at the Family-Y this summer.
