FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - North Forrest Elementary School representatives spent a day welcoming new students in style for the 2016-2017 school year.
Teachers, the principal, and the vice principal loaded onto a school bus and drove all the bus routes to visit future students.
The group entered each neighborhood honking the horn, walking the streets, and knocking on doors introducing themselves to future students in hopes of getting them excited for the school year.
Grandparents, parents and students alike took pictures with the teachers, and gave hugs and well wishes for the new school year.
"There is so much perspective of getting out and into the community that you just don't get from 8 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. while the students are in our building," said Cathryn Warren, a teacher who participated in the event.
Warren also said that this was the school's way of making sure the school year got off to a good start.
