HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - An alleged weekend armed robbery in the Hub City landed a Hattiesburg man behind bars.

Malcolm Ward, 27, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

"A female victim was approached just before 10 p.m. Saturday by a suspect in the front yard in the 2300 block of Alive Drive," said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler. "The suspect walked up to the victim, displayed a handgun and took her purse."

According to Traxler, the suspect was later spotted walking along Lincoln Road and stopped by an officer and taken into custody.

Ward is currently being housed at the Forrest County Jail awaiting his initial appearance.
