Coast murder victim worked at Hattiesburg hospital

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Forrest General Hospital has released a statement after one of their own was found murdered in St. Martin Saturday night. 

Dee Whigham, 25, was found stabbed to death at a hotel, according to the Jackson County sheriff.  

Family said Whigham identified as a woman but hadn't undergone any kind of gender reassignment surgery.

Whigham was an RN at Forrest General Hospital. 

Evan Dillard, president and CEO of Forrest Health, issued the following statement on Whigham's death: 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dee Whigham as they try to make sense of this terrible tragedy. She will be remembered at Forrest Health as an excellent nurse who was well-loved by her patients. I know Dee will be missed by her co-workers, supervisors, and the Forrest Health family,” said Evan Dillard, president and CEO of Forrest Health. 

Whigham's cause of death is still unknown, pending autopsy results.

According to investigators, authorities are looking for a "person of interest" pictured in surveillance video from the hotel.
