Starkville's Mary Elizabeth Stringer crowned Miss Hospitality 2016

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A 21-year-old kinesiology major at Mississippi State University is Mississippi's new Miss Hospitality. 

Mary Elizabeth Stringer, who's also a native of Starkville, won the title at the 67th annual pageant in Hattiesburg Saturday night. 

She'll now travel around Mississippi and the country promoting tourism and economic development for the next year.

A total of 27 contestants from around the state participated in the pageant.

Lydia Myers, of Laurel, was crowned the first runner-up. 

The theme this year was "Destination Hospitality."

    Multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene of a shooting at the Sanderson Farm plant in Collins where one person was shot.  According to Collins Police Chief Joey Ponder, the shooting happened inside the facility around 4 p.m.  The factory was closed down while the scene was made secure according to Ponder.  He said one person was shot and transported to a local hospital with injuries, but he did not know the extent of them.  A suspect did flee the sce...
