First children's community health fair held at South Central Place

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of children were treated to a free health event just for them in Laurel Saturday.

The first Children's Community Heatlth Fair was hosted by the South Central Health Care Foundation.

It had lots of free health screenings and health education booths.

There were also games and other activities for kids and parents.

Organizers hoped the event would be educational for children.

"We don't want the kids to get scared when they see a temperature probe or a blood pressure machine," said Achyutha Pujari, a pediatrician with Ellisville Pediatric Clinic. "We want the kids to meet who are responsible for taking care of them and we also want the kids to have fun."

"I think this is an excellent service for the community," said Derrick Burgess, who brought his three children to the event. "The kids are able to come in and play and they don't even realize they're learning about health, it's just making it fun for them."

There were also some outside activities, including fire department displays.
