The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Institute for Disability Studies (IDS), in partnership with Metro Area Community Empowerment (MACE), seeks volunteers to assist with the 40th annual Wheelchair Softball World Series to be held Aug. 10-13 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi.

The 2016 Wheelchair Softball World Series will feature 20 teams, which includes approximately 350 athletes. Teams are traveling near and far, as far as Korea, Japan and Nigeria to participate in the 40th annual event. This is the second consecutive year the event will be held on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and hosted by the Deep South Hurricanes, a wheelchair softball team based on the Gulf Coast.

Volunteers are being asked to assist tournament staff in several areas, such as daily set-up and removal of equipment, scorekeeping, assisting with field assignments, keeping athletes hydrated, and helping teams move between playing fields. Volunteers can choose to help for either one day or all three days of the tournament. The deadline to register to volunteer is Friday, July 29.
