The Lamar County Sheriff's Department is warning people about an email scam that is going around in the form of a death threat.

The email was sent to at least one elderly lady in Purvis. The email was sent from an unknown email with the name, “Serial Killer.” The email reads that if the person does not comply, he or she will die.

Here is an excerpt from the email stating what the person who received the email had to do:

“Now do you want to LIVE OR DIE? Since all program has be made and draw to kill you. Get back to me now if you are ready to pay some fees to spare your life. $8,000 is all you need to spend in this process, you will first of all pay $3,000 and then I will send a tape to you which I recorded in every discussion I had with the person who wanted you dead, and as soon as you get the tape, you will pay the remaining balance of $5,000. If you are not ready for my help, then I will carry on with my job straight-up.”

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said do not be alarmed, just delete the email and contact authorities if you have concerns.
