HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person they say is involved in a grand larceny case.

The incident happened at 5061 Highway 42, Fairchild Motors on May 25th, 2016.

On Tuesday, July 12th, the Hattiesburg Police Department issued a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) for a person of interest in the case.

That person was named at Alfred Mack, with his photo shown in the press release from the police department.  According to family members of Mack, he died 12 years ago.

Wednesday, Hattiesburg police requested the BOLO be removed, and replaced with surveillance video from the scene of the crime, asking to identify the (new) person of interest.

The department issued this statement on the matter:

“The information that was released on the person of interest on Fairchild Motors was derived from tips that came in and lead to a name.  When the name was checked a photo was found of a person with that name and was similar to the suspect.  Based on that, the bolo was released to either locate a suspect or clear a person of interest.  After the release information was given that cleared the name and picture that was released.” –Hattiesburg Police Department

The investigation is still ongoing into the Fairchild Motors incident.

If you have any information, contact Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.
