HATTIESBURG, MS -

Hattiesburg police responded to the 600 block of Magnolia Avenue in reference to an armed robbery attempt around 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to Lt. Jon Traxler, during the attempt the suspect used a firearm to strike the victim, causing it to discharge. However, no one was injured by the stray bullet.

The investigation is still ongoing.

    This past summer, Hattiesburg hosted the Levitt AMP Concert Series, but the concerts were due to a grant provided by the Levitt Foundation that was awarded to the University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism. They are up for the grant again, but currently need more votes to bring the concert series back.
