HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - For some folks at the University of Southern Mississippi, it just wouldn't be summer without drummers.
For 25 years, USM has hosted percussion camps called, "Summer Drumming at Southern Miss."
The 5-day rudimentary camp wrapped up Friday afternoon with a concert at the Mannoni Performing Arts Center.
About 100 percussionists from the U.S., South America And China participated.
Most are in high school.
"We actually took the 100 drummers and broke them up into five peer groups, from beginners, or novice players, to very advanced players and everything in between, so they could all learn and develop at the same level," said John Wooton, instructor and camp founder.
"Summer Drumming at Southern Miss" also features camps on drum sets, mallet keyboard and steel pans and middle school percussion.
