JCJC offers CPR, First Aid & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) class

The following is a news release from Jones County Junior College

Jones County Junior College will be offering several CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) classes at the Whitehead Advanced Technology Center in Ellisville.  The morning class will meet on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on several dates: August 18, October 13, December 15, February 16, April 13 and June 15.  The afternoon class will meet on Thursdays from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. over the year during several sessions: July 14, September 15, November 17, January 19, March 23, and May 18.

The Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED is a one-day, five-hour classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. In this course, students will learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) use.

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid, CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. Upon successful completion of the course students receive a Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED course completion card by mail which is valid for 2 years. The cost for this course is $15.  To register and to pay for the class come to the Advanced Technology Center at 72 Technology Blvd, Ellisville, or call Carmen Sumrall at (601) 477-4105 to register and to pay for the class. A CPR Card will be mailed to successful participants one week after the class.

    The American Legion's first female national commander visited Hattiesburg Tuesday night.  Denise Rohan met veterans and attended a dinner at the American Legion Post 24. She became the organization's first female commander back in August. Next week, she'll speak to congressional leaders in Washington.  "I get to testify next Wednesday, in front of a joint session of the Veterans Affairs Committee and talk to them about what we need and what we do for the commun...

    One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a crash involving five vehicles in Hattiesburg Tuesday night.  The wreck happened around 6:30 p.m., in the southbound lane of Highway 49, just north of the Hardy Street intersection.  Hattiesburg Police officials said one of the vehicles involved was an 18-wheeler.  Copyright 2018 WDAM.
