PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Petal Police Department.

The Petal Police Department has set up a benefit account to raise money for two of their officers at Bancorp South. You can donate any branch of Bancorp South under “Benefit Account for Officer Charles Reid” or “Benefit Account for Officer Mickey Hurt."

Officer Charles Reid suffered a heart attack last Wednesday, requiring a quadruple bypass surgery on Friday. Officer Reid is a single father of four kids, two of which still live at home. Officer Reid will be out of work for several months and there is an immediate need for financial help while he is recovering and unable to work.

The Police Department has secured a storage unit to take in donations of clothing, furniture and housewares. There is also a go fund me account set up for him by his family online.

The Petal Police Department and both families are very grateful for such an outpouring of support they have already received from the community during this time. For more information on donations please contact Miranda Williams of the Petal Police Department at 601-544-5331.
