LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - City of Lumberton alderman Jay McGraw is resigning from his position.

McGraw, who has been an alderman for almost five years, turned in his resignation last Tuesday during a board of alderman meeting.

McGraw said his last day will be July 29.

"I'm selling my house, relocating, it has nothing to do with anything," said Jay McGraw. "Just strictly moving and relocating."

McGraw added that he has had his house up for sale for three years.

There will be a special election to fill the alderman spot according to McGraw.

McGraw has mentioned the idea of resigning in years past after several run-ins with law enforcement related to shoplifting charges.
