4 indicted in 2014 Hub City homicide

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The final of four suspects charged with murder in the 2014 shooting death of a Hattiesburg man has been indicted.

Jamarcus Pettigrew, 25, turned himself into the Forrest County Jail Sunday afternoon.

Pettigrew was served with a three count indictment for murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder and criminal street gang activity at the Forrest County Jail Tuesday. 

According to the indictment, Count 1: Jamarcus Pettigrew, Jawan Davis, Geino Payne and Brandon McNair did willfully, feloniously and without the authority of law kill and murder Nathaniel Alexander on November 29, 2014 while engaged in the commission of an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved heart, regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual.

According to Count 2:  Jamarcus Pettigrew, Jawan Davis, Geino Payne and Brandon McNair did agree one with the other, to commit second degree murder.

According to Count 3: Between November 1, 2014 and November 29, 2014, did willfully, knowingly, unlawfully, and feloniously participate or assist in the commission of illegal gang activity, to wit: commit second degree murder and aggravated assault against other gang members.

Jawan Davis, 23, Brandon McNair, 29, and Geino Payne, 21, have also been served with their three count indictments in the case.

Alexander died from multiple gunshot wounds he received outside a home at 312 West 4th Street.

Twelve suspects total were arrested and charged in connection to the shooting death.

Other suspects arrested in the crime:

  • Doreion Balam, 18, was also charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity.
  • Cedric Smith, 24, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.
  • Alice Poole, 19, is charged with hindering prosecution, rendering criminal assistance, $10,000 bond.
  • Micahel May, 20, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.
  • Anthony Crosby, 22, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.
  • Ladayle Strickland, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity,$100,000 bond set.
  • Kadarius Nichols, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.
  • William Myers, 38, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

    Fans were waiting in the parking lot Wednesday outside Hattiesburg High School for tickets to go on sale for the 5A South State Championship Friday night. The Tigers are hosting the Laurel Tornadoes in a I-59 showdown.  The game, a repeat of the "Lil' Brown Jug" game will give the Tornadoes the chance at revenge, after Hattiesburg won the rivalry game 20-14 in August.
