LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A lightning strike set a home on fire in Lamar County Sunday night.

Tommy Wild said he and his wife were watching TV when they heard a loud pop.

"I checked the backyard at first and didn't see anything, but when I turned around I saw a glow in the attic," Wild said.

Wild and his wife escaped the house safely and called the fire department. Lamar County fire officials responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames.

The only damage was to the attic of the home, and structurally the home is stable. No injuries were reported.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
