HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Late Saturday night, 26-year-old Larita Dewberry was found dead in her car.
She was found in her vehicle at 3901 West 4th Street suffering from a gunshot wound.
"It appears that she suffered from a gunshot wound, but we are sending the body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy," said Forrest County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Nobles.
Hattiesburg police were called to the scene on West 4th Street just after 10 p.m. to a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
However, there was someone by Dewberry's side in her last moments.
Apartment resident Cedric Bee saw what happened and quickly rushed to Dewberry's side with a wet towel in his hand.
"I felt her pulse you know and she was kinda of making a little noise and I was trying to encourage her like it is going to be all right," Bee said.
For Bee, watching Dewberry during her last moments was heartbreaking for him.
"It was hard to see because I have a daughter that I love dearly and to see one of my black queens, one of the young sisters and then they are dead that was my first experience at it," Bee said.
Tawain Blakely, 25, turned himself in on Sunday and is now charged with the murder of Dewberry.
